An interdisciplinary science school in the Pyrenees

Looks like another one of my crazy ideas is actually coming to life. We’re organizing a science school/summer camp, inspired by post-Soviet-model science camps that I’ve been involved in for age, but this time IN ENGLISH and FOR ADULTS. The camp will take place in the 2nd week of September, in a super cool spot in the French Pyrenees. The place is truly unique: both physically, thanks to its stunning nature and a charming house, and conceptually, thanks to the organisation that runs it (more info via the link in the comments).

The idea: the camp is open both to people connected to science (PhD students, researchers, teachers, science journalists) and to anyone who’s just interested – no specific background required.

The general theme is “Communities”. Every day we’ll have a mini-project on this topic, but from the perspective of different fields: ecology, sociology, microbiology, and so on. After lunch there will be creative activities and nature hikes, and in the evenings – common events and socialising.

The price starts at €360 for the whole week, incl. accommodation and meals! (so as you can tell, we’re not trying to make money, it’s the bare minimum to cover the costs). The vibe will be very low-key, and at least for this first edition group size will be around 12-13 people. So sign up soon and share with your friends!

Научный летне-осенний лагерь в Пиренеях для взрослых

У меня тут еще одна сумасшедшая идея кажется претворяется в жизнь. Мы организуем НАУЧНЫЙ ЛАГЕРЬ, вдохновленный АБФСами, МИФами и т.п., но НА АНГЛИЙСКОМ и ДЛЯ ВЗРОСЛЫХ. Он будет проходить на 2й неделе сентября, в очень клёвом месте во французских Пиренеях. Место уникально и фихически, по красоте природы и уюту дома, и идейно, как организация (больше почитать можно по ссылке в комментарии).

Идея такая: лагерь и для тех, кто как-то связан с наукой (студенты-докторанты, рисёрчеры, преподаватели, научные журналисты) и для тех, кто просто интересуется, никаких специализированных знаний не надо. Общая тема – “Сообщества”. Каждый день будет мини-проект по этой теме, но с точки зрения разных наук (экологии, социологии, микробиологии…), после обеда – творческие штуки и прогулки в горах, вечером – живой телевизор (простите, мероприятия, интеллектуальные игры, социализация).

Цена начиная с 360 евро – это за неделю, включая жилье и еду! (т.е. как вы понимаете деньги заработать с этого мы даже не пытаемся, это чисто расходы по минимуму). Все очень лоу-ки, хотя бы в этот первый раз, на 12-13 участников. Так что записывайтесь скорее и шерьте друзьям!
